CND, the global leader in professional nail care, exhibited an abstract collection of graphic nail designs at Libertine’s Spring/Summer 2016 Show at Skylight Clarkson Sq. in New York. Inspired by rebellious German artist, Blinky Palermo, the clothing and nails featured high-key color in neat, precise patterns. The outcome of this inventive fashion partnership was an irreverent art show – loud yet refined.

“Curating this collection with Libertine’s Johnson Hartig was a truly collaborative process,” said CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold.
“His inspiration this season could not have been more in line with CND’s Spring 2016 trend story, which is all about art redesigned and repurposed. Blinky Palermo was the ultimate art vandal, and Johnson is THE expert at remastering the classics – the result on the runway was pure artistic expression.

The bold, tidy nail looks created by the elite artists of the CND Design Lab Team were hand-painted with SHELLAC™ Brand 14+ Day Nail Color and VINYLUX™ Weekly Polish in nearly-neon shades of yellow, pink, blue, orange and green. Four distinct nail styles were scattered on each model’s nails for an overall vibe of organized chaos:
- “Blinky Blocks”: These dual-toned color-blocked nails featured clean lines and contrasting colors. - “Checkmate”: A bright checkerboard pattern set against a white base made for a restrained pop art effect.
- “Bad Penny”: Based on a metallic rose gold shade from the upcoming Spring 2016 color collection, and adorned with copper foil and a mosaic of miniature pennies, these monochromatic nails were an invaluable statement piece.
- “Veronica”: These expensive-looking nails were completely encrusted with mirrored glass-cut baguettes in various sizes, a reflection of the embellished garments.

“Collaborating with CND for the third time has been insanely inspiring,” said Libertine designer Johnson Hartig.
“The nail concepts CND comes up with are ingenious. They took the art inspiration and reinvented it on the nails like a decadent gallery show on tiny canvases – we just get each other.”
