Fall/Winter 2015 designer collaborations and nail designs from CND
CND, the global leader in professional nail care, showcased three effortlessly cool nail designs tonight at Opening Ceremony’s Fall/Winter 2015 Show at Cheim & Read in New York City. Presented in a unique art gallery setting, the fashion collaboration was a celebration of the early works of legendary film director Spike Jonze, a long-time friend of Opening Ceremony.
Paying tribute to his prolific photography, the collection highlighted 35-millimeter film through an interplay of collage formats and contact sheets on unconventional mediums, and featured a select capsule collection honoring storied technology brand Kodak. CND completed the story with two understated linear nail designs featuring Kodak’s signature color palette and a third look paying homage to one of Jonze’s poignant photographs.
“We were completely captivated by Opening Ceremony’s creative vision for this collection,” said CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold.
“Their colors and concepts tied in perfectly with CND’s Fall 2015 trend story, which celebrates an unexpected clash between gritty street elements and refined details for an intriguing combination of glamour and grunge.”
The nails presented at the Opening Ceremony show were a collaborative effort between the elite global artists of the CND Design Lab Team, Opening Ceremony and their design consultant, celebrity nail artist Naomi Yasuda. The handmade works of art were created with vertical and horizontal striping techniques using VINYLUX® Weekly Polish in an array of heavily pigmented Kodak-inspired colors including red, yellow, blue and purple. A decoupage technique was implemented to lay Jonze’s impactful black and white photography on the nail. Intricate detailing provided the framework for the design, the third bespoke look for the collection.
“The nails that CND designed for us this season in collaboration with Naomi Yasuda were a seamless interpretation of our designs onto the models’ fingertips,” said Opening Ceremony Founder Humberto Leon.
“We really wanted this collection to honor Spike’s photography and the technology behind it, and it was exciting to see the art come to life on the nails to complete the story.”
“Working with Opening Ceremony for the first time last season gave us an artistic platform to create nail styles that were subtle and artistic, speaking to a wide global audience,” said Arnold.
“As our creative partnership evolves, we strive to continue fusing their cool contemporary aesthetic with our larger-than-life artistic vision to inspire Nail Pros and consumers around the globe and reinforce the integral role of nails in fashion.”
