Louis Vuitton Cruise 2016 collection
Louis Vuitton is pleased to announce Nicolas Ghesquière's Cruise 2016 Fashion Show. In the days leading up to the Louis Vuitton Cruise Show 2016, the House takes you on an breathtaking journey through Palm Springs.
Surrounded by the spectacular architectural lines of the estate designed by John Lautner, numerous guests appeared to witness the presentation of Nicolas Ghèsquiere’s second Cruise collection for Louis Vuitton.
Capturing spontaneous choreography of a fashion crowd, photographer Saskia Lawaks documented the arrival of the guests and their anticipation as the show began.
Among the personalities present: Michelle Williams, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Alicia Vikander, Catherine Deneuve, Selena Gomez, Miranda Kerr and others.
Particularly for Nicolas Ghesquière, a collection is an ensemble: the cuts in the dresses and leather goods are reflected and enhanced with both shoes and accessories.
The primary silhouette featured a full-ish top cropped short, its stretch banding baring the midriff over a long, fluid low-slung skirt. At times the top was rendered as an abbreviated motorcycle jacket; at others as a sparkly take on a sweatshirt. Brutalist aspects came in accents of leather and hardware: a wide grommeted belt crisscrossing in front; capelet-like sleeves punctuated by multiple rows of grommets. Conversely, a group of long dresses with sober frills drew on gentle notions of Victoriana and looked spectacular in leather lace.
The collection marked a clear digression from the precision and polish that have long marked Ghesquière’s work and a move toward a more casual, raw aesthetic that may surprise and challenge his client base.
