Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Spring-Summer 2016 pre-collection
The Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Pre-Collection for Spring Summer 2016 plots a winding path through the iconic arrondisements of Paris, jumping across the Seine from Sonia's spiritual home in the 6th district to explore the diverse and nonchalant style of the City of Light.
Captured by Sonia Sieff at Le Basile café in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Langley-Fox Hemingway embodies once again the Sonia woman, sparking the collection's playful femininity with a boyish yet sexy attitude. An iconic palette of white, navy, black and chocolate brown is lifted with splashes of raspberry, lipstick pink, blush and bright silver.
Inflected with the cinematic sensuality of Italian architect Carlo Mollino's provocative Polaroids, bands of slick vinyl and an abundance of tiger stripes counter the iconic touch of tweed, polka dots, and marinière stripes that define the Sonia woman. Subverting her wardrobe of twisted classics, the combination of unexpected textures and nipped proportions lend a louche, Mod aesthetic to slick and boxy tailoring, striped knitwear sliced with eyelet studs, and trompe-l'oeil cardigan dresses. A twinset in navy stripe tweed is updated with patent piping, zip details and fringed pockets; separates to pair with the season's pleated jersey miniskirts, straight white jeans, or perhaps a peacoat in indigo denim.
Elsewhere crisp snap-stud shirting or crepe blouses are worn with punchy separates - a statement mini and perfecto are cut in navy & black-striped leather or silver lambskin embellished with psychedelic poppies. For evening, delicate guipure lace trims a loose camisole paired with boyish crepe trousers.
Low, block-heeled sandals and cinching leather belts are dotted with cabochon studs, a retrretro hardware detail that returns to embellish the Margaux hobo shoulder bag in black patent and chocolate calfskin.
