Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Spring/Summer 2016 collection
The Sonia by Sonia Rykiel collection for Spring/Summer 2016 takes to the streets of Paris, imbued with dynamic spirit of Sixties and Seventies denim days splashed across the pages of the cult British title Nova magazine.
Fast-forward to the Left Bank of today, where American illustrator Langley Fox Hemingway once again embodies the Sonia by Sonia Rykiel girl - this time captured amidst the passing traffic of the iconic rue Tournon by French photographer Sonia Sieff. Nuanced with a retro streak of girl power, the collection channels a bright and playful city summer splashed with denim blues, shades of berry pink, warm orange, vermillion, black, and crisp white.
Psychadelic nods to Bowie-mania and the heady days of disco are updated with an urban ease, as tiers of sequins are layered with signature Rykiel striped knitwear and high-waisted denim paired with racy lips and rainbow graphic sweaters. The delicacy of poppy and "heart paisley" printed silks (scarf blouses and shift dresses) meet the hardware of snap belts and eyelet-embellished collars, cut in a nipped waist silhouette all the way from denim tubeskirts to ancle-grazing column dresses in pleated lurex knit.
The boyish appeal of slim tailoring is twisted with a mix-and-match of denim treatments - from topstitch collared vest and caban coat in "denim tweed" to graduated stripe jeans and chambray shirts trimmed with ruffles - elevating the workwear fabric with a sense of Parisian sophistication.
Accessories include lighting strike crystal brooches, peep-toe sandals patched with patent hearts, and a studded denim hobo - perpetuating a rebellious "glam rock" spirit throughout the collection.
