August 2015: National Festival of the Bulgarian Folklore, Koprivshtitsa
The National Festival of the Bulgarian Folklore, is held in Koprivshtitsa, Bulgaria since 1965 - once in approximately every 5 years. Its 11th edition will run August 7-9, 2015 in Voyvodenets area, Koprivshtitsa. The festival is dedicated to Lyuben Karavelov.
The festival promotes Bulgarian folklore and includes a competitive part for amateurs, in which all singing and dancing ensembles, musical instrument players, folklore story tellers and folk customs groups, from all over the country and abroad, can take part. All participants must provide programs, based on the folklore of the area, where they come from. The National Festival of the Bulgarian Folklore is also open for foreign groups, interpreting Bulgarian folklore dances and traditions.
During the previous edition of the event (in 2010), more that 18 000 artists presented their talent and about 200 000 visitors were there to enjoy the beauty of Bulgarian folklore.
